My work focuses on the relationship between parents and schools, and how these relationships are mediated by family backgrounds of each family, social composition of the school, and education policy.
Drawing upon the perspectives of policy sociology, I have been investigating empirically and critically into the working of School Management Council system in Japan, which is the school governance bodies consisting of parents, teachers, and local residents. I have published a book, "The Micro-politics of Community Schools" (written in Japanese), as a revised version of my doctoral thesis. It was awarded by Japanese Association of Educational Administration Studies.
I have also been conducting a research regarding structural reforms of state schooling system over the last few years, and I am interested in the academies / free school programme in England.
