専門は環境社会学、社会計画論、サステイナビリティ学、環境・地域エネルギー政策論。
社会学に立脚して、環境問題を中心とする社会問題の解明と解決過程に関する実証研究を行っています。現在の主要テーマは以下の３つです。１） 環境問題をめぐる社会制御過程（環境政策と環境運動）の社会学、２）地域資源管理の社会的技術、３）環境・地域エネルギー政策
